Well that was interesting. It looked as if we'd made a profit on the doubles. Missed the early ones at Woodbine and Belmont, but scored in the 4th/5th at Belmont with a pair of 4-1 shots and a $45 double that enriched us by $22.50
Saved $8 from our investment when the 4-horse was scratched from the Gallant Bloom Handicap. That was a bonus, because Indian Blessing was scary-good, winning by many lengths. We bet against her, but just lost $8
In the ninth at Woodbine, Chantal Sutherland, as we predicted, got the win, flying up the inside on #9 No More Lakes and paying $10.30. We had four horses in the 10th and Chantal came out of the clouds on the outside with #11 Mia D'Cougar, passing half a dozen horses in the final 8th to win, again at 4-1. The double was paying $49.00 and that meant we profited by about $13. I clicked off the tv and got ready for a little going away party for a friend I work with at 680News.
Little did I know that Mia D'Cougar was being DQed for squeezing # 7 Prima Dana, which finished fifth, so Mia D'Cougar was demoted behind that one...and we didn't cash the double, which mean a loss of $12, which puts us $5 on the negative..
OK..here's the doubles for Sunday September 21, last full day of summer:
1st Woodbine: Take #1 Haitian Gold and # 3 Caoutchouc. Both have shown excellent speed in their previous races. In the second race, Da Silva rides # 8, Saint Reade who is named for Baker Reade the trainer, so that makes a good story if he wins. Use that one, the rail horse, Flying Brigade as well as #2 Essence Thunder and #3 Gallant. Perhaps you can see, I'm leaving out the 6 Silver Rocket who will be even money or less - he has four Beyers that are each higher than everything else in the race and he will be pounded.
Take #1 and #3 with #1,#2, #3 and #8 for $8
In the 10th at Woodbine, Eurico's on a pretty good one in an evenly matched bunch of $15,000 claimers. Use #10 Magical Fortune and also #2 Garzon who is reaching a low this year and has hit a few times at this distance against more expensive horses.
In the 11th:Jim McAleney will be the favourite on #5 Long Journey, but we'll use him anyway along with Sutherland on #3 Ice Melted, Landry on 4, Krushchev (he will Bury them!) and #7 Archieman for Na Somsanith.
That's 10 and 2 with 3,4 5, and 7... another $8
1st at Belmont; no..it's a 2 1/2 mile hurdles race..forget it!
2nd at Belmont: Going against Prado and #5 Sara Louise, who will be a low price: Use #4 She'll be Right (maybe she will) and #6 Nika..
In the third, throw in the 1 and 1a entry, Prado on #3 Bet the Limit, #4 Immortal Eyes and #6 True Crusader. If we pull the upset in the first, we cash!
4 and 6 with 1, 3, 4 and 6 for $8
I like the 6th race and will be taking #2 William T who is getting some class relief dropping to $35,000. Having Cornelio Velasquez will help as well. Also take #10 Moore Miles and Coa. This one will be flying at the end.
In the 7th, load up with # 1, #3 , #4, # 7 and #8. These are all pretty equal in the Statuette Stakes, so using 5 is a good idea.
2 and 10 with 1,3,4 ,7 and 8...that's $10
Late double at Belmont: let's take three because two year-olds sprinting can be very unpredictable. We'll try #3 Akilina, #10 Gem for Hook and #11 Sapphire Sky who will be a big price, but might like the outside - it is often a great post at 7 furlongs down the long Belmont backstretch
in the 11th: # 3 Milk Run #5 On Lake, #7 Adorable You, #11 Maggie's Miracle
3, 10 and 11 with 3,5 7 and 11. That costs $12 and today we're spending $46....Have fun!
