I'm intimidated by how hot Pat has been, but here are some daily double picks for Saturday.
Start with Belmont. In the first race #5 Pocatello just might have the lone speed. This horse has won 4 of eight races at 6 furlongs, so probably won't pay much. I also like the 4 horse Saumon Fume ( Ialso like smoked salmon, but that isn't factoring in.) Saumon Fume won its last two races at 6 furlongs - the last time it raced at Belmont.
Wheel 4 and 5 in doubles with 4,6,7 and 10. If we win the first race, we'll be well covered for the second. Spending $8.
At Woodbine....ugh...maiden 2 year-olds in the first race. This is why I rant about rolling doubles throughout the card. Love the double, hate the race...but...#3 Contango will probably be the favourite based on his race-high Beyer last time out, so we'll try and beat him with the #1 entry of Monty's Best and Trouble Today. Toss in #4 Coffee Bar ( who also won't pay much - Husbands/Casse combo, $335,000Keenland purchase!).
The second race is appalling - it's comprised of 9 horses whose collective lifetime records are o for 86! What do you do with a bunch of losers like this? Take #1 Gold Spinner because the rider is da Silva, it has shown some speed and the worse a field is going a distance, the greater advantage the rail is. Also, use #4 Kinisha and Ramsammy; they came from 7th to be 3rd last time out at this distance. There is no up to # 5 Up Up. # 6 Hot Truck Honey is 0 for 21 and will soon be 0 for 22. The 7 horse, Glorious Aria has lost all five races by a total of 73 lengths.
The 8 horse Eternal Hope not only describes the essence of the horse player, but has only raced three times and hasn't yet proven it's as bad as the rest of these, so toss it in and also take a shot on #9 Miss Weathers. Same thinking here. She's only had four races -they basically suck - but she hasn't yet exahusted the possibility that she has a little talent.
Woodbine early daily double: 1 & 4 with 1,4, 8 and 9. That's $8. If i crap out on today's two doubles, I'll be down about $52.
