With the wipeout from last week, I am down $58.
The first two races at Woodbine could produce a myriad of results. I can't tell who the fave will be in the first, but I like the 6 horse Talon and the rail horse Lucius Vorneus seems ready for a big one. Probably get around 2-1 on each, so let's load up in the second hoping to catch a price.
#4 Promising Dancer gets Anthony Stephens and this one might like the 7 furling distance as much, maybe more than others in this race.
#3 Eolos has been on the grass a lot, but he won his last time at 7 on the poly. Also take #2 Bold Finale and #6 Handful Harold - I don't play jockey Matt Moore very often, but Harold has already had a Handful of 7 furlongs - this will be his fourth.
6 and 1 with 2,3,4, and 6 for $8
The 9th race is the Avowal Stakes at 7 on the grass and although #1 Saskewea has never won on the grass, this might be the day for the filly - she shows a couple of runnerups to Sealy Hill. Tyler Pizarro, I believe is still looking for his first Stakes win and maybe it works out today with #7 Sudsy Baby, and Slade Callaghan has a dangerous one, #9 Akronism, whose first two grass efforts scored in the 90s Beyers.
The tenth has a dozen to choose from and we choose #2 Deli Lama, #6 Tapenade, #7 Halloween Dance # 8 Petite Jete and #9 Shelf.
1,7 and 9 with 2,6,7,8 and 9 = $15
On to Belmont..
I'm going to take Prado on the 8 Coastal Drive even though he might be favored . Don't know what the public will make of #6 Drowning Bear who won his first race a year ago with an 85 Beyer and is back for just his second start. I'll assume the horse has some issues. Let's go fishing with #5 Yukon Gold Rush and #10 Little Wise Guy.
Race two: The lowest price will be the entry, but I love 2 for 1 in the double; since two jockeys ( Garcia and Prado) are named, there might not be a scratch. Also use # 3 Retriever ( and when he loses, we can say he was a dog) and # 4 Distant Strike - and pound this one on the win end if it's better than 2-1..and # 7 Nowhere to Hide just to be safe..
5,8 and 10 with 1, 3,4 and 7 = $8
Ginger Punch is running in the Beldame, the 6th at Belmont. She's won her last four and is closing in on $3 million, but she'll be 1-2, so let's take #2 Lemon Drop Mom and # 5 Unbridle Belle to beat her. These will be $2 doubles.
The 7th is the Flower Bowl Invitational (?). Always use Prado when he has the rail horse, which he does - Palmilla. Add #4 Mauralakana, # 6 Hostess and #3 Dynaforce. The latter will probably like it a lot better if the turf is soft and it did rain a lot yesterday.
$2 doubles 2 and 5 with 1,4,3 and 6 = $12
Here's the late doubles and the 10th is the Jockey Club Gold cup with # 5 Curlin. If he wins, he becomes racing's first #10 million horse. So let's assume he wins and take #9 Mambo in Seattle off his incredibly brave Travers ( second by an inch to Colonel John). Let's make these $3 doubles ( trying to win back our losses)
in the 11th: Talk about two extremes...we go from the best horse in racing history to a field of 12 with $160,00 in earnings....collectively. They have 106 races among them and not one win.The fastest Beyer at the distance (6 Furlongs ) is a 68 by #9 Another Hades and we'll use this one at the risk of entering parimutuel hell. We should also take #8 Otter Island, racing for the first time so at least he hasn't proven yet he's as bad as these. We'll throw in #10 Western Call and #1 Fort Mccoy and hope we're covered.
$3 doubles: #5 and 10 with 1, 8, 9 and 10 = $24.
We're spending $67. If we hit nothing, we'll be down $125.
