OK we had a little hit in the doubles yesterday. Didn't hit the first one, though the second race went exactly as we expected with the 7 and 6 running 1-2.
IN the 8th race yesterday, we hit the second choice and when Chantal brought home the second choice in the 9th, our double paid $42 ($21 for the $1 bet. That gave us a modest profit on the day of $4 and it really proved the point of betting doubles. Both horses were obvious picks and a $2 parlay would have paid $$32, so there was added value of more than 30% taking the two in the double.
Since I started posting doubles, I am now down about $48, but I do feel I'm about to go on a run.

The first race at woodbine is interesting... It looks as if #3 Star Prospector will be low odds, so we'll take a stand against him. I'm going to go with Emma-Jayne on the rail, even though Sir Galahad is at best, inconsistent. His tendency to sit off the pace and make a late run might work here, because at least three in the field of 7 want the lead. I'm also using #7 Armored, because anytime Husbands and Casse combine, it's dangerous and having the outside post in a small field could be very advantageous - it gives Husbands the opportunity to gauge the early speed.
The second race is a maiden special weight, so we're loading up on possibilities, taking #2, #3,#4 and #7 and there's still three or four others that could beat us!
$1 doubles 1 and 7 with 2,3,4, and 7
In the late double, starting with race 9, I settled on #3 Quite a Knightmare and # 7 Ky Bluz Girl for pretty well the same reason - both fillies have run well for their respective jockeys. Quite a Knightmare has two wins and two seconds from the last 6 times Justin Stein has ridden her; in fact two months ago, Stein missed by a head in allowance company - this is a $25,000 claimer. Emma-Jayne Wilson has ridden Ky Bluz Girl in 3 of that filly's last dozen races and has two wins and a second. First try at a mile and 1 sixteenth, but she has been coming late at 7 furlongs..
In the 10th....we'll take five - what are they doing sticking two year old maidens in the last half of the late double? Take #1, #2, #3, #5 and #9..and I've left # 7 Guipago out, so he's probably the one to break our hearts..
9th race double : 3 and 7 with 1,2,3,5, and 9
Belmont race one double:
The first heat is tough and I'm assuming it is staying on the grass....scratches could wreck these picks.
I love the 3 and 3X entry if both run. Edgar Prado is on the 3x and could have this one motoring to the lead late. I also like #9 Chauette, mostly because jockey Alan Garcia is riding brilliantly..lasting the six furlongs will be the trick here.
In the second...only the 7 has even run...so it's in along with #1, #4 and #5
Belmont first double : 3 and 9 with 1,4,5 and 7
In the 9th at Belmont, the Step Nicely Stakes, 5 of the 7 horses come in off wins, so I'm going to take the two that didn't! #4 Mucho Mucho is a son of Macho Uno, the sire of Harlem's Rocker and might like the cutback to a mile from the 9 furlongs it ran last time...and #7 Law Enforcement with Prado just missed last time and is six for seven first or second in its career..There's a lot of talent in this race - it should be a good one..
In the tenth..there's a dozen listed to go a mile on the Widener Turf, so who knows if they'll actually run on the grass or who will be scratched. We'll leave it up to fate..
Have to take Prado on the rail with #1 Mosaic running for just the second time in her career and Alan Garcia has a shot with # 2 Venetian Causeway who has been flying at the end of all four of her races. add #5 Sophisticated Lass and #10 Keely's Black Magic and also put in #13 Kaleigh Rose if she drops in.
Belmont late double : 4 and 7 with 1, 2, 5, 10, 13..
Today's four doubles will cost me $36, putting me down $84 if they all crap out.

That worked out well. We didn't connect on either the first double at Woodbine or the first at Belmont ( though we saved $4 with the scratch.) I was a loser in the late double at Belmont as well...but...
I did call the shot on Emma-Jayne Wilson in the 9th at Woodbine. She has done very well with this horse, Ky Bluz Girl and was much the best riding off by about five lengths.
I rant on about loading up in the second half of the doubles and here was an example that worked perfectly. #5 Chilkoot Pass was our best paying horse of the five we took - he was 17-1 and Slade Callagahn ( riding great these days) took him right to the front and repelled all challengers, winning by half a length. That made the double pay $174 - our share for $1 was $87 and that puts us up $7 in our double picks with more to come.
Just to brag, I bet it myself and 20 minutes later hit the 9th race at Arlington. A 15-1 shot nailed an 11-1 shot at the wire and paid $511 in the exactor. I had it for half.
Nice way to end the weekend, eh?

Here's some doubles for Saturday September 8.
The first race at Woodbine is unfathomable, but we'll bet it anyway and there's not much science involved. I'm using #5 Light up Broadway and #6 Ocala Dawn, mostly because of the jockeys. Eurico Rosa da Siolva has been hitting for me all year long and I go back a long way with Richard Dos Ramos ( I have tape of him from the early 80s before the invention of the printing press, let alone the internet).
In the second race, let's try and beat the favourite which will probably be the 9-horse, Unbridle's Dream. How can you not bet Jim McAleney on a horse named Jimmymac Bear? So take the entry, the #2 Takamosa, # 6 Active Duty (Casse/Husbands) and #10 Perfect Shower even if it sounds like the name of a porno film
5 and 6 with 1, 2, 6 and 10 for $8
For the late double, I'm going with # 1 Affiniti One. Na Somsanith has been on a little roll lately; he brought in a 17-1 shot for me last week. All I needed to see about the 9 horse is that the rider is Chantal. Yesterday, I dropped into Woodbine to fill the bin with more copies of Down The Stretch and to grab my free Form and I had just enough time to bet the third race. I looked for the horse with Sutherland on and bet $4 win/place and she scored at 9-1.
In the tenth, take #3, #7, # 9 and # 11.. That will be another $8 in $1 doubles..
On to Belmont:
First race; looks as if we like The 1-horse Rock Lobster, even if he is coming in off a win (something I disdain).I'm also using #7 True Dancer. It's a very tough heat, so if we get the winner, it should pay something. IN race two, load up with # 6 All the Bases, # 7 Brave Victory and #9 Mayor Marv. Those will be the three favorites and I can't see anyone else winning the race.
That's $6 worth of doubles 1 and 7 onto 6,7,and 9
We'll also try one of the rolling doubles, starting with the 4th race: This might be nuts, but I'm using JE Bermudez ( 1 for135!) on the 2 horse Five Demon Bag because his last two races indicate he's ready. I' ll also bet # 4 Lava Cat who almost got the job done last time. It's a real dog's breakfast of a field.
In the fifth, take #7 Triste Doble Q # 9 Stay Alittle While and # 11 Straight Story. If we hit the first winner, we will get the double.
2 and 4 with 7, 9 and 11 for $6 of doubles
The late double starts with the Gallant Bloom Handicap and the 1-horse is a Monster. Indian Blessing has won 7 of 9 for almost $2 million and has been under even money in each of her last 7 races. We don't bet for nickles, so we'll skate around her and use #4 Sugar Swirl and # 5 Elope. In the tenth, take # 3 Punt's Kitty (and don't say that too fast), #7 Barbara'luckystar, # 11 Doree Daze and #12 Fair Game.
I'm taking this double for $2 : 4 and 5 onto 3,7,11 and 12 = $16. Total bet today $44. We're up $7 on all the posted doubles, so a wipe out today would put us -$38

Yeah..note the typo in the Doubles for September 20: the first line mistakenly says September 8..it should be the 20th!
